Carl De Keyzer: Moments Before the Flood

The works of Carl De Keyzer, born in 1958 in Kortrijk (Belgium), have not yet been shown in Poland. The artist began his professional career as a photographer in 1982. 
From 1982 to 1989 he taught photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, since 2009 he has been a lecturer at this university again. In 1990, De Keyzer became a "No-minee Member" of the legendary photo agency Magnum Photos, becoming its full member four years later in 1994. In the years 2003-2004, the artist was the vice president of the Magnum Photos agency. 
De Keyzer is a documentary photographer who, from the beginning of his artistic activity, carrying out large projects, studied marginalized social groups, dealt with social transformations, human influence on the surrounding environment. The artist has completed several large projects, including such as: India (1987), Homo Sovieticus (1989), God, Inc. (1992), East of Eden (1996), EVROPA (2000), ZONA (2003), Trinity (2007), Congo (Belge) (2010) and of course Moments Before the Flood (2012). Carl De Keyzer's latest work was included in an album released last year The First World War Now, which presents the lenses of the ten members of Magnum their contemporary visions of war. In January of this year, the artist started another new project. 
De Keyzer, in addition to the aforementioned nomination for the Prix Pictet, has received many awards and distinctions, among which it is worth mentioning the W. Eugene Smith in 1990 and the Kodak Award in 1992. The artist's works are in important international collections. 

Dr. Adam Mazur, whose text we publish in connection with the exhibition, undertook the task of introducing the Polish reader to the work of Carl De Keyzer closer to the Polish reader. The author of the second published text is the well-known Belgian writer David Van Reybrouck, who described Carl De Keyzer's project. 

Carl De Keyzer's individual exhibition is the second project carried out in cooperation with the Roberto Polo gallery in Brussels and the fourth photographic project presented by Atlas Sztuki during the Łódź Photo Festival.
