Henryk Cześnik: Cześnik’s Cut

What is more important in the creative process: emotions or intellect? Henryk Cześnik answers this question unequivocally - it gives a huge advantage to emotions. Krzysztof Cichonia's conversation with the artist, in which the creator shares his experience with us with his own simplicity, can be briefly summed up: everything that is devoid of a emotional element is subject to disqualification. During my meetings with Henryk Cześnik, both in Sopot and in Łódź, I also got the impression that the works he creates are works of inspiration - uncalculated, sincere, created out of genuine need, arising as if by themselves.

The philosophy of art, of any art, is to be directed towards man. What is the task of art? Above all, it should give joy, hope, goodness. Reading the texts included in this catalogue clearly proves that this is the case with Henryk Cześnik's work. In all three very different articles, it is impossible to find words of criticism.

I also encourage you to take an active part in the exhibition. One work specially prepared for this presentation will be cut into pieces during the opening. Anyone who declares to show up with "their" fragment on a specific day in Sopot will receive it as property. By proposing participation in this artistic action, once again, we try to cause the viewer's reaction, draw him into play, dialogue with art. We want to go beyond the standard practice of opening subsequent exhibitions with mechanical regularity, with the belief that this is enough to attract the viewer.

The answer to the question: whether the painting will be recreated in Sopot, or, as Krzysztof Cichoń put it, "Cheśnik's crown" will be received in August this year.
