Gerhard Jürgen Blum–Kwiatkowski: Argumenta

I first spoke with Gerhard Jürgen Blum-Kwiatkowski on the phone in 2003, preparing an exhibition of Roman Opałka's works. I remembered it well - Blum-Kwiatkowski wrote an interesting text for the catalogue. He did it willingly and to my surprise without a fee. However, I met him personally only in January 2005, during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Eugen Gomringer's birth in Rehau. I also remembered that well. I met an extremely kind, cheerful man, despite obvious health problems, passionately talking about his work and creative path. 

During the ceremony in Rehau, where all the participants treated Gerhard Jürgen Blum-Kwiatkowski with great respect and seriousness, I realized how much he did for art, including, and perhaps above all Polish, over the years. I heard that thanks to his work, the number of works by Polish artists per household in Hesse is probably higher than in many regions of Poland. The unusualness of the Museum of Modern Art created by Blum-Kwiatkowski in Hünfeld, as well as the Kunststation in Kleinsassen, I saw a little later, in March this year. To this day, I am impressed by these places and their creators. It is almost unimaginable that one man has created more than multi-member ensembles of large galleries or museums.

Gerhard Jürgen Blum-Kwiatkowski does not like to be called an animator or popularizer of art. He talks about himself: the creator of states of emergency. In fact, he is an extraordinary artist, an art theorist and, above all, a creator of exceptional states. We are pleased to present a fragment of the Museum Modern Art collection from Hünfeld to Polish viewers for the first time. The uniqueness, the phenomenon of this collection are brought closer to us in their texts by Lech Lechowicz - who has been cooperating with Blum-Kwiatkowski for years and Paweł Sosnowski, who has known the artist for a long time and in the mid-1990s made a film about him for TVP. I highly recommend reading both texts.
