Writing... its forms and functions were different. There was a letter that could hardly be read. The writer and reader were set to have a high threshold of intelligence so that they could penetrate their important information layer.

The evolution of writing in our cultural circle has moved towards the greatest ease, the greatest readability. But also at the expense of shallowness and almost total loss of his mysterious beauty. Information, easy information. There is not much left for the eye. It didn't happen everywhere. The Middle and Far East have preserved writing, which is still a work of art.

We also did not get rid of the longing for such a "writing". Writing, whose information functions would not be limited only to discursive thought, but would also touch on other images of consciousness and sensitivity. Of course, this can no longer be done. "Such a letter" will not be created.

But, really?

When I was watching the exhibition of Teresa Tyszkiewiczowa's paintings, reflections of this kind began to be born in my head.

Is this painting an abstraction? What abstraction? Because it is not geometric, it is not "gesture painting", although Teresa Tyszkiewiczova has been doing such a painting for a long time. So what is it really? Isn't it a “writing”?

Such a letter that cannot inform us of anything at the level of ordinary thinking, but nevertheless gives us very important content.

It's a bit like someone who can't read Hebrew is looking at Hebrew writing, or Chinese or ancient Egyptian writing.

Or maybe also, as at the meetings of the original church "speaking in tongues" was perceived?

So I think that Teresa Tyszkiewiczowa's painting is "writing". That it arises on the antipodes of our ordinary writing and fulfills those functions of transmission, from which our "ordinary writing" has long given up.

There are many such trends and realizations in abstract painting in recent times. But Teresa Tyszkiewiczowa's "images" seem to be very clear and, of course, fulfill such a function.

Jerzy Nowosielski (1923-2011), Polish painter, set designer, philosopher and Orthodox theologian. Strongly associated with the Krakow community. In the years 1950-1962 he lived Łódź; he was a member of the Fifth Circle group in Łódź, in the years 1957-1962 he worked in the Łódź PWSSP. He belonged to Teresa Tyszkiewicz's close circle of friends.
