Wojciech Fangor

Wojciech Fangor, as part of an individual presentation of his work in Atlas Sztuki, will show twelve works created in the years 1969-1975 in one of the rooms. Some of them have not been presented in Poland so far. They were an important part of the individual exhibition taking place at The Solomon R, which was important in the artist's achievements. Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1970. In the second room, the artist prepared an installation about which he says in an interview with Stefan Szydłowski: "The year 1945 was a liberation from the crazy ideology of Nazi Germany, from the terror of war, the promise of slavery and extermination. But the liberation turned out to be up to history, full of contradictions and threats. It brought hope, but also fear of a new system, coming after the tanks. To this complexity of my personal experiences, in the shadow of which we still remain, I devoted an installation presented in one of the rooms of the Atlas Sztuki. In an exciting conversation, Wojciech Fangor accurately formulates his views on art, presents his vision of creativity, sources of inspiration and the role of the artist in an extremely clear way, and colorfully describes events from artistic and personal life. The artist was friends with outstanding figures of world art, spent many years in West Berlin, Paris, Great Britain and the United States, taught at universities in England and the USA.

I also highly recommend an essay on the artist's work by Dr. Stefan Szydłowski - a long-time friend of the Fangor family. 

A meeting with Wojciech Fangor is also a meeting with his wife Magdalena. Although we know each other briefly, our multiple meetings in Łódź and Błędów, where the Fangors live, have always been cordial, and both spouses captivated me with their kindness and hospitality. In my opinion, the atmosphere of our meetings is well reflected - taken during one of them - by the photograph of Magdalena and Wojciech Fangor, which we publish in the catalogue.
