At the heart of graphic art lies the idea of reversal, taken directly from the relationship between matrix and print. In Piechura’s prints and posters, reversal often becomes subversion: slightly roguish, conjuror-like, surprising and different—the reverse—of the aristocratic refinement of his means. It has accompanied Piechura since his graduation work, in which he showed, among other things, a spherical die.
