Tadeusz Piechura: Poster +

Atlas Sztuki Team

Graphic art? Posters? Even the title Poster + sounds like a prelude to invalidating this exhibition. What, after all, can happen in the nature reserve of graphic art? A reserve, because graphic art, still full of respect for form, is consequently an enclave of the old-fashioned amid the dazzling spectacle of mainstream art, which spilled beyond form long ago. What new things will there be to see? We feel no pressure to ‘show novelties’ and have no intention of obsessively ensuring the ‘freshness of the goods’. Those disappointed should try car showrooms, gadget fairs and new-product markets. We believe that today the problem of form cannot be reduced to sex and design alone. We have an enormous amount of time and respect for the artist—this time, once again, for Tadeusz Piechura. Time is of no consequence; it is worth taking a moment to discover the colossal difference between a poster made in 1971 and one made in 1969. It is worth seeing a poster from 2048.
