Stefan Krygier

We have prepared a catalogue to accompany the exhibition of Stefan Krygier’s work at Atlas Sztuki. We invited Associate Professor Maria Hussakowska of the Institute of Art History at the Jagiellonian University to contribute an engaging analysis of the artist’s achievements against the background of twentieth-century international art movements. The result is a superbly written essay, full of fascinating references and compelling from start to finish. The second text is by the mathematician Professor Henryk Żołądek, who views artistic practice from a different perspective. Another important element of the catalogue is a conversation conducted by Dr Stefan Szydłowski with the artist’s wife, Krystyna—a noted architect with her own creative achievements and the first sympathetic viewer of his work—and his daughter Monika—an artist and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. Stefan Krygier had the opportunity over the years to meet and know many eminent people and, above all, was himself the creator of important events, so his wife’s and daughter’s account makes absorbing reading. I warmly recommend the catalogue.
