Łódź’s End-of-Communism Colour Is 2022’s Most Fashionable Shade
In the 1960s, Polish youth did not really like domestic production, except for sung production. In 1966, Karin Stanek dreams: "Dad, buy me jeans-pants, Dad, I'll be comfortable". For two years (after the ceremonial opening) the Clothing Industry Plant "Odra" in Szczecin has been producing in full steam. They sew from texpol. How grumsy we were! We didn't like the colour. The blue colour looked heavily splashed with milk. The Polish substitute for American denim, called "Texas" or "Arizona", was produced by the plant. Szymon Harnam in Łódź. The communist patron was killed by a gunshot at a rally in Łódź at the Kilińskiego 2 plant in 1929. The attack was witnessed by Bernard Lichtenstein, a brilliant tailor living nearby, on ul. Włókiennicza 20 (formerly Kamienna!). Bernard left for the United States in 1937 and ten years later he designed the most famous jeans in the world - wrangler 13MWZ. Polish youth probably did not know about it, although they definitely preferred, for half of their parents' salary, to pay ten times for Bernard's wranglers than to walk in measles. The Harnama plant (since the 1980s already Rena-Kord) closed in 1999. The buildings on Kilińskiego were taken over by the Atlas Group two years earlier. During the careful renovation of the Biderman factory and palace, documents were found in the attic testifying to the efforts to change the patron from Harnam to Lichtenstein. Atlas used the colour of natural indigo in its sign, and in tribute to the Łódź tailor, in the colour of milk indigo, in Łódź, at 2 Kilińskiego Street, EC1 jeans were created in 2006. Under the patronage of (attent) gaze of David Lynch... Today they take on the character of those who, together with us, rewrite Reymont's masterpiece on Promised.pl. Verse by verse, jeans with jeans. See you at the big laundry Łódź on the Kobro Market.
