Eastern Front

The works presented in the exhibition come from the collections of the Museum of Art in Łódź, the National Museum in Warsaw, the Dariusz and Krzysztof Bieńkowski Collection, the Exchange Gallery, the Cezary Pieczyński Collection (Galeria Piekary), the Hendrik A. Berinson Collection (Galerie Berinson), the archives of TVP in Łódź and WFO, and the artists themselves.

The catalogue includes two conversations with Professor Józef Robakowski. One was conducted by Michał Jachuła, a curator of the younger generation who works at Galeria Arsenał in Białystok, and the other by the undersigned. In inviting you to see Eastern Front at Atlas Sztuki, I shall quote Professor Józef Robakowski, who says in one of the interviews: ‘The Eastern Front exhibition is my statement as an artist. […] As an artist, I do not have to defer entirely to art history or to the understanding of Constructivism established by historians. In this exhibition, I turn instead into an active intruder interested in the question of whether the works appearing in the space I have organised currently possess the power to exert an energetic effect. Arranged in a new multimedia order, they should awaken new impressions in visitors. The situation is intended to be risky; otherwise, I will not achieve the creative shift that matters so much to me.’
