Rafał Jakubowicz: ti tabu dibu daj

Rafał Jakubowicz's project entitled Ti tabu dibu daj Inaugurates the fifth year of the Atlas Sztuki exhibition activity. The title of the exhibition, taken by the artist from the lyrics of the disco polo song, sounding quite abstract, arouses curiosity. Rafał Jakubowicz says: "I always try to use a minimum of means to express what I want to convey. So if you can express something with, say, five kilograms, we don't have to use fifty-five. In art, five can weigh more, paradoxically, than fifty-five. The message should be subtle.” The artist, carrying out his latest project in Atlas Sztuki, decided to remain faithful to his customs. The exhibition space will be transformed into sports halls. He intended one for aerobics (apart from wicker, there won't be many other elements in it), the other for basketball (equipped with a board and a ball). About his exhibition, in a very interesting conversation with Krzysztof Cichon, he says that "it will concern a certain non-adherence, dissonance".

I strongly encourage you to read the texts on the artist's work by Ewa Mikina and Iza Kowalczyk. The first of the authors, discussing Jakubowicz's previous exhibitions such as: Form, Art kills, Mittel Weiß, one hundred and seventy and something, Cabinet, in an interesting way indicates the variety of issues and problems penetrated by the artist. Iza Kowalczyk, analyzing the artist's work, draws our attention to his movement in certain areas of memory that activate the process of thinking, space, temporality and absence in mutual relationship with their recipient. I also recommend reading the recording of two conversations with the artist conducted by Justyna Kowalska and Krzysztof Cichoń. The two interviews differ in the temperament of the interlocutors and perhaps that is why the artist was persuaded to talk about: his coming of age, masters, wicker, anorexia, lie-elites, educated, IV RP and many other interesting issues.

It is difficult, at the moment, to imagine what Rafał Jakubowicz's minimalist presentation will look like in the Atlas Sztuki space. For the critics writing in this catalogue, as well as for the entire Atlas Sztuki team, it is obvious that it will be an interesting project that is worth seeing.
