Today, they scare us with the cold to come. What do they know, only as much as trickles down from the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it was cold. Somewhere between 1978 and 1979. They later called it the “winter of the century,\u201d even those who still remembered the winters of the forties, winters sometimes far away. There must have been something to it. Outdoors, there was definitely a lot of snow. This is still evident in photographs. The snow has long since melted, contrary to what Francois Villon wrote (in the era of photography) it\u2019s still a fact, comparable even years later. One could bury oneself in it for good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then there’s something like love (Villon wrote about it too).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And it would be useful, given the cold. Michalina Wis\u0142ocka’s \u201eArt of Loving\u201d appeared just before the communist Winter of the Century in 1978. It emerged and changed much, perhaps more than those monumental snowdrifts at the beginning of 1979. That winter was a considerable problem for the authorities of the time. The book, describing love so concretely, turned out to be an even bigger issue. It\u2019s copies cruised the bulding of the Central Committee of the PZPR in Warsaw for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let us wish each other, even now, in these few colder days and nights, for a phenomenon like Wis\u0142ocka\u2019s book to unexpectedly fall upon our imagination once more. How much energy would be rightly allocated to the private sphere instead of boiling over in public forums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It would turn out well for everyone (those practicing and not, those shoveling snow and not, those rowing forward and not), and perhaps even for our health. And health in winter is important. Francois knew that too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
